Personality: Mendel is quite often described by those who know him only in passing as shy and retiring,
but those who know him better list off such traits as stubborn, perfectionist, humble, and loyal.

History:
Mendel was born the last of four litter-mates in the quiet Armadillo-taur village of Brocksworth. It was a place of comfort and respectability.
A place where people (to quote Tolkien) "never had any adventures or did anything unexpected". As a young taur Mendel was constantly harassed by his
elder siblings due to him being both the weakest and Mummys favorite.

Around age nine was when he found his true calling in life,his father being a well-to-do sort, decided to commission a painting of the family. It was during
these sittings that Mendel became entranced with painting and the arts in general. With a little encouragement from his mother he began sketching and taking
lessons from the local artist.

At age fifteen he became apprenticed (against his fathers wishes) to said painter and learned all that the old artist knew.

At age seventeen he found out about the Masetro Artist Academy a human college in the far west that placed its students under the tutelage some of the greatest
artist of the era. Mendel was hooked.He knew that he had to go there!His old Master although kind and wise was not a master painter, his only only obstacle was his species.
By withdrawing from his apprenticeship and spending a year at home, Mendel began the arduous training to become a Beta.

After perfecting his Beta form to look as human as possible Mendel left Brocksworth and began the trek to Masetro.After four long weeks of trekking Mendel was able to find a caravan
heading the same direction.

Using funds from his apprenticeship and some freelance work for the caravan, Mendel applied to Masetro Academy and began classes on his nineteenth birthday.

Things were going quite well for Mendel in fact right until his last year of collage, he was now twenty three and his work was the talk of the town.His new Master at the collage
was looking to get him a patron and all the underclassmen looked up to him. It was all going on fine and dandy till on the eve of his social debut (basically a big party at which he
would be introduced to members of the gentry in hopes of gaining a patron) a colleague envious of his success unmasked him as a taur.

Needless to say he was immediately thrown in to jail and all his paintings were destroyed.He was found guilty of witchcraft and treachery, and sentenced to burn within a fortnight,during his
two weeks prison he was often verbally and physically abused by his former class mates-his jealous rival being chief among them-.

The night before his burning Mendel broke down and prayed for a miracle, he called upon the his families gods and begged them for forgiveness. In a moment of kindness it seemed that
The Fates looked kindly on him and granted him his miracle. Mendel was able to change into his seldom used and tricky to turn into Gamma form, and dig his way out of the jail cell.

Now free he felt himself unable to return home in shame, and so decided to settle in a nice valley that he had past through on his travels. He now lives in small three room cottage in the
territory of Esurian.
